Bioacoustic Therapy Case Study: Nerve Pain

8/21/07

Bioacoustic Sound Therapy exploratory case studies, fieldwork, and data collection research follows a framework of predetermined protocols which provide a systematized way of looking at events, collecting data, analyzing information, and reporting the results. In this case study, client reported disabling nerve pain in the back area.

Abstract
Client was on permanent disability for back pain and described that he was “having some significant health problems---primarily neurological”.

Voice prints revealed most stressed frequency equivalents: T8/T9 nerve, T7/T8 nerve, S2/S3 nerve, and vertebrae T8, T9, T11, S3, S4

Frequency equivalents also in stress: quadratus lumborum, semispinalis, longissimus, adductor magnus, T8, S3, gluteus medius, tendon under foot, toes, and diaphragm, illiococcygenus

During tone trials he was having trouble hearing the sounds. He wore hearing aids in both ears. He didn’t know if he liked any of the sounds and thought most sounded like a “60 cycle hum”. By the end of tone trial test 2, he was getting very relaxed and sleepy so we didn’t complete all the tone trial formulas. As he stood and walked afterward, much to his amazement, his pain level for the electric pain in lower thoracic was greatly diminished, and he felt a “strange” feeling in his right hip and right knee.

On tone box:

Because his nerve pain had diminished, no tone box was set up. We waited to see how his body reacted.

Follow up:
In the evening he reported that the pain in his back was still gone but he had pain in his toes, and left hip.

Voice prints taken that evening showed frequency equivalents most stressed: T9, T10/11 nerve, L3, piriformis, Vitamin E, and gemellus. Other frequency equivalents showing to be in stress: longissimus, semispinalis thoracis, peroneus longus, adductor longus, quadratus plantar, Vitamin B3, toes, abdominals

New tone trials were conducted the next day, Client used his own “over the ear” JVC HA-NC100 noise canceling headphones to listen to the sound formulas and reported that he was able to hear the sounds better. Once his headphones were plugged into the SMAD, he said he could hear much better. His headphones have a frequency response rate of 10-22k Hz which is the same as Koss headphones normally used for Bioacoustic therapy.

Pain level:
Before tone trials: 3 on left side – edge of ribs
After tone trials: 3 for left hip but no “electric feeling” in back.
No tone box was set up.

One week later, client emailed from home: “I'm okay.  I've taken my pain meds on schedule, but have not had any really reportable pain "issues."  I still have the burning in left back area, primarily from midback (spinal area) laterally.  I'd rate it as 2-3 today with meds.  I've been really busy "catching" up on undone things from the trip, but intend to do some relaxation and abs exercises as recommended.”

Discussion:
Although his pain abated during tone trials and was still greatly diminished one week later, he reported still having some continuing  nerve pain. It might have been more helpful if he had listened to his sounds for a few days on a tone box.To relax piriformis muscle – a “walletectomy” was suggested (stop wearing his wallet in his left back pocket), massage therapy, and abdominal/core conditioning with Pilates.
