Bioacoustic Therapy Case Study: Shoulder Pain and Rotator Cuff Issues

11/21/2007

Bioacoustic Sound Therapy exploratory case studies, fieldwork, and data collection research follows a framework of predetermined protocols which provide a systematized way of looking at events, collecting data, analyzing information, and reporting the results. In this case study, client reported shoulder pain and rotator cuff issues.

Abstract

Client reported that her “arm hurt really badly when she moved it up and down”, rotator cuff is pulling, and she feels burning down her arm. She’s had some trouble with it in the past, and believes it is from repeated muscle movement. Her sleep seems to be aggravating it right now.

Of the 4 rotator cuff muscles, the frequency equivalent of suprapinatus was indicated in her voice print as high and the frequency equivalent infraspinatus low. The frequency equivalent trapezius muscle was the reciprocal of a high in one chart and sliced in another. Additionally, the frequency equivalent temporalis was the highest high in the structural octave and high in neuromuscular octave. The frequency equivalent pterygoid was both high and low in the now range of the voice print. These indicated jaw or mouth issues.

Before tone trials where performed, she confirmed that her problem was abducting her arm, which indicated an issue with supraspinatus muscle.

13 sound formulas were presented. The 1st two formulas she subjectively rated as 8 on a VAS scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best and 1 the worst. She rated the other 11 formulas as 2-4.

She then stood up and moved around and was amazed that her arm felt so much better even though she didn’t like most of the sounds. She said “You tricked me – I like to be tricked!” She sat down to try more sound formulas with much greater enthusiasm.

7 more formulas were presented. She rated all these as 7-9 and said her arm and neck felt warm like blood circulation was flowing, and that she felt much more relaxed.

After a short break, 5 more formulas were presented. During these she said she felt peaceful and relaxed, that the warm feeling had moved up the back of her neck into her head. The pinched feeling she started with had moved out and dispersed.

Whole brain and environmental formulas were not well tolerated.

No tone box was set up because her issue had resolved.

The frequency equivalent jaw issues indicated in her chart seemed important. She said “that’s so weird because I was noticing how my jaw has started to feel uncomfortable sometimes.”  She talked about some job related stress she was experiencing. She now works as a timeshare salesperson, talking people into doing things she personally doesn’t believe serves the greater good. She wonders if her shoulder pain was the result of this stress. She’s considering a job change.

Discussion:
Looking no further than the first voice recording, her issues were clear – frequency equivalent of suprapinatus was high, frequency equivalent of infraspinatus low, frequency equivalent of sternocleidomastoid high, and frequency equivalent of jaw in stress.

The high frequency equivalent of pterygoid muscle and high frequency equivalent of supraspinatus had a base/ environmental relationship, which is particularly interesting in light of the discussion about the relationship between shoulder and job talking people into things she didn’t believe in.
